Diverse Innovation Facilitation and Group Method

One key in cultivating diverse innovation is the removal of barriers that separate individuals.  One such barrier is that between a teacher and a student, which presumes that the former is higher than the latter.  Since innovation is not aligned to hierarchy or structure, but rather individuals, the method for teaching innovation is with the entire class.

Therefore, a facilitator exists to help the class keep time and stay focused on the program, but the teaching and learning is shared. The facilitator will be more effective to the class if the DO NOT have a background in Innovation

In order for all individuals to have the opportunity to participate equally, the facilitator will also provide guidance around how group members should respect and value everyone’s contributions.

Another artificial barrier is the assumption that so-called innovation experts are in a particular team,  facility,  or room.  As innovation happens everywhere,  diverse innovation groups can meet in any location that accommodates the number of people comfortably.   [see room configurations for details on how the facilitator should set up the environment for discussion]

Groups meet for 12 weeks and generally follow the following agenda:

  • Report: Discuss the progress you made during the week on your commitments.
  • Diversity basics review:  Learn principles that lead to greater tolerance and mutual understanding.
  • Learn: Learn practical skills that will enhance Diverse Innovation.
  • Discuss: Share perspectives and experiences related to skills and principles.
  • Commit: Promise to act on learnings during the week that will help you progress.
  • Act: Practice what you learned
